About This Video
THE Philippines? tourism ambassador of goodwill, Hong Kong movie actress and singer Elanne Kwong tries her hand on a souvenir ukulele made at a guitar workshop in Cebu during her recent visit to the country. Cebu and Bohol in Hong Kong Media CEBU?S white-sand beaches and Bohol?s diminutive tarsier were featured recently in the entertainment pages of Hong Kong?s most-read newspapers. This is thanks to Hong Kong movie actress and singer Elanne Kwong, who has been chosen by the Department of Tourism as an Ambassador of Goodwill to promote the Philippines to the Chinese market. Her latest trips to the islands were picked up by the entertainment beat of Hong Kong?s widely circulated newspapers, such as the Sun Daily, Apple Daily News, SingPao Daily News, SingTao Daily News and Oriental Daily News. ?Marketing our beaches, natural wonders, shopping and other attractions by foreign celebrities designated as ?ambassadors? is a big component of our strategy. Getting into the entertainment circuit adds a new dimension to this campaign,?? said Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano. ?This way, we can further present the Philippines as an ideal location for photo and video shoots, as well as celebrity getaways,? Durano added. The department is optimistic that the positive reviews in the Hong Kong media will help contribute to their target of 3.2 million visits by the end of 2007. Kwong?s four-day tropical island included a tour of guitar, fashion and home accessories factories in Cebu, a dinner and a massage at the Hilton Cebu Resort. Then, she indulged in water sports at the Hilutungan and Nilusan islands, also in Cebu. The star and her entourage then set for Bohol via ferry to visit the Tarsier Sanctuary and to view the geographical wonder of the Chocolate Hills. They also toured the Loboc River and Bohol Bee Farm, and enjoyed the shoreline at Eskaya Resort on Panglao Island. Before boarding her plane to Hong Kong, Kwong sampled the services of Amuma Spa at the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort. A graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Kwong has appeared in several Cantonese-language films. She also has recorded songs for the soundtrack of Doraemon the Movie, a popular Asian cartoon. Her management company recently announced that her next project, a photo album/biography, will have Philippine scenery as a backdrop for most of the shots. To be published by New Monday Magazine, the photo album will be launched in this year?s Hong Kong Book Fair. Law Ching Him, another designated tourism goodwill ambassador for the Hong Kong market, is scheduled to visit Boracay and Palawan this year. A diving and water sports fanatic, his most recent familiarization tour of the country included an interaction with the butanding (whale shark) of Donsol, Sorsogon. He stars in a television series popular among the Hong Kong youth and has appeared in several Cantonese movies and advertisements for Coca-cola and Panasonic.
